Calabasas is located in the hills west of the San Fernando Valley, and east of Thousand Oaks, California. Simi Valley is located about 10 miles to the north, and Santa Monica about the same distance to the south east. Calabasas is known for its wealthy residents, gated neighborhoods, and large homes. One of the oldest surviving buildings in the greater Los Angeles area, The Leonis Adobe built around 1844, is located in Old Town Calabasas.
The City of Calabasas holds an annual Pumpkin Festival in October, including carnival games, exhibits, demonstrations, and live entertainment. The city also provides its own shuttle and trolley services, and is also serviced by LA Metropolitan Transportation Authority. Calabasas residents are served by schools in the Las Virgenes Unified School District, one of the highest-ranked districts in the state, which offers 3 elementary schools, 2 middle schools, and Calabasas high school.
