Wilshire Square Santa Ana Homes For Sale

WILSHIRE SQUARE HOMES FOR SALE | NEW LISTINGS | UNLISTED

Wilshire Square is a neighborhood in Santa Ana where neighbors know each other. Wilshire Square is not just a collection of historic houses, it is also a place where people gather and socialize during the summer concert. Where neighbors swap cuttings to expand their gardens. Where you know your neighbors well enough to actually recognize them when you run into them in Home Depot or the supermarket.

1365195001

The first house in Wilshire Square was built in 1915. The majority of homes was completed between 1922 and 1931, with a second building phase between 1935 and 1942. Very few houses were built after that, though a few were built as late as the 1950s. The wide tree-lined streets, period street lighting, and large lawns and gardens add to the neighborhood’s charm.

The homes were built by master craftsmen with Arts and Craft style overtures. The houses reflect some of the architectural styles popular at the time — Tudor Revival, Spanish Colonial, and California Bungalow. Although you will find similarities in the houses, because each one was custom-built, they all reflect the individuality of the original owners and builders. In many cases, you will also see the influence of subsequent owners who have completed sensitive remodeling, renovation, and addition projects to their home.

Residents enjoy wandering through some of the neighborhood gardens. Each one reflects the personality and style of the home, and each is an artistic and thoughtful complement to the home it surrounds.

The Wilshire strip attracts and serves automobile traffic as well as pedestrian shoppers. When initially developed, major retailers such as Desmond’s, Silverwood’s, May Co., Coulter’s, Mullen & Bluett, Myer Siegel, and Seibu spread down Wilshire Boulevard from Fairfax to La Brea. The architecture of the buildings has larger, bolder, simpler signage and longer buildings in a larger scale.  The Miracle Mile building forms are driven by the stylistic language of Art Deco and Streamline Moderne.

Washington, D.C. 235

The 1939 Streamline Moderne May Company Building marks the western border of the Miracle Mile and “Museum Row”.

The Miracle Mile became one of Los Angeles’s most desirable areas. Acclaimed as “America’s Champs-Élysées,” this stretch of Wilshire near the La Brea Tar Pits was named “Miracle Mile” for its improbable rise to prominence. Although the preponderance of shopping malls and the development in the 1960s of financial and business districts in downtown and Century City lessened the Miracle Mile’s importance as a retail and business center, the area has retained its vitality thanks to the addition of several museums and commercial high-rises.

Movie Colony Palm Springs Southern California Homes for Sale

MOVIE COLONY HOMES FOR SALE   |   FOR LEASE   |   NEW LISTINGS

Movie Colony Palm Springs Southern California Homes for SaleThe Movie Colony neighborhood of Palm Springs, California is known for its revered past as a movie star getaway oasis. With homes for sale, this palms resort community is primarily comprised of single family homes constructed in the 1930s. Many actors of the 40’s and 50’s lived and vacationed in the community. It remains today a comfortable bastion of artists and creative retirees. Also home to the famous Movie Colony Hotel, the neighborhood is a short walk to downtown Palm Springs and the Palm Springs Art Museum. The real estate area is defined by the border streets of E Tachevah Dr, N Avenida Caballeros, E Alejo Rd and N Indian Canyon Dr.

There are two movie colonies. They renamed the area that our office is in to make it more fancy, which has worked well in real estate marketing. I mention it in case someone looks it up and gets confused. There’s also Los Palmas, which is where most of the stars lived.

Elizabeth Taylor’s old house (which she hadn’t been in since the 80’s) is renting for $5,000 a month and it’s tacky. Elvis’ house is back on the market. Celebrity houses are getting a high profile recently. Leonardo Di Caprio bought a house here. Sunnylands was re-done, and now the President keeps coming there, and that is a big deal to many investors.

It’s largely investment “party house” vacation homes that are the hot tickets right now. Many buyers are investing today, with plans to possibly retire in the property later.

The single family homes do not contain very many large families. Along with a large number of single retirees, the neighborhood also attracts a large number of gay, lesbian and GLBT community.  The Modernist style homes are a major attraction (the Modernist Weekend always results in sales). While the neighborhood begin in the 30’s, most buyers are attracted to the 1960s houses, and there are a lot of big-name, well-known architects attached.
